Samsung Drift: New Helio's Proposal

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Helio, the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) formerly known as SK-Earthlink, has announced its new cell phone just called The Drift, the first phone produced especially for this company by Samsung, the leader in electronic devices.

Available in white-silver or black in color, Helio's Drift has a unique characteristic: location based services (LBS). This is the third cell phone launched in the market after the company changed its name and it is expected to become on of the biggest favorites among "mobile people".

Helio's Drift is a slim slider available for $225, but with a number of features such as QVGA screen, 2 Megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, microSD card slot, and 128 MB of memory.

Location based services will be using Google maps so the phone users can access turn by turn driving directions, as well as traffic updates. This is a new proposal from Helio, in which previous efforts were focused to provide mobile access to MySpace.

However, networking is not left out of scope. The Drift includes "Buddy Beacon", an exclusive location-based friend finder, enabling the user to call nearby friends on the network, or send a text message requesting to get into their Buddy Beacon for a live voice chat.

Google maps for GPS and mobile devices is fully supported by Helio Drift with the ability to right click on draggable maps, display traffic jams or accidents in a determined path, receive driving directions, and access satellite views of any map.
