It was during the last week of October when Crown Castle International, independent leader of broadcasting and shared wireless communications, confirmed the upcoming Modeo mobile TV, a service that will be available in New York City before the end of 2006.

Acting as a subsidiary, Modeo will launch the DVB-H mobile TV network, and if the company's plans go well, the intention is to construct a network nationwide, including other markets as capital investors become interested in this project.

Starting with this project, Crown Castle's president and chief executive, John Kelly, revealed that DVB-H handsets would be soon available to New Yorkian subscribers through Cingular Wireless LLC and T-Mobile USA Inc.

While the time to the launching approaches, there are numerous questions around carriers that might be offering them, although some observers believe that handsets will be offered by Modeo as unlocked GSM phones.

DVB-H will offer a 3G mobile-phone experience to a market of 2G handset users, with the United States being the first serious attempt to introduce this technology. In Europe, DVB-H mobile TV is not expected to be launched on a trial basis by its developers until 2008.

During Crown Castle's earnings conference call in Houston, there were no carrier’s confirmed to partnership with Modeo for the DVB-H mobile handsets, but T-Mobile seems to be the more suitable candidate.

Modeo mobile TV is considered to be the next big thing in mobile multimedia applications.
